Which one fits

The FortiGate Rugged 60F is not a straight step up from the FortiGate Rugged 50G-5G: it publishes less threat-protection throughput (500 Mbps against 1.1 Gbps) and IPS throughput (950 Mbps against 2.25 Gbps). On the headline figures it gains nothing. Neither choice moves the TLS inspection session table (74 000 against 70 000) or raw firewall throughput (6 / 6 / 6 Gbps against 6 / 6 / 5.95 Gbps), so a site held back by how many decrypted sessions can be live at once gains nothing from the FGR-60F.

Choose the FortiGate Rugged 50G-5G if

  • The FortiAP limit is already enough at 16 / 8: the FGR-60F adds 1.9× you will not use.
  • The FGR-50G-5G is ahead on threat-protection throughput: 1.1 Gbps against 500 Mbps.
  • The FGR-50G-5G is ahead on IPS throughput: 2.25 Gbps against 950 Mbps.
  • Your limit is how many decrypted sessions can be live at once, which the step up does not move: 74 000 against 70 000.

Choose the FortiGate Rugged 60F if

  • The FortiAP limit has to go past 16 / 8: the FGR-60F publishes 30 / 10.
  • The FortiSwitch limit has to go past 8: the FGR-60F publishes 24.
  • The VDOM ceiling has to go past 5 / 5: the FGR-60F publishes 10 / 10.
  • Cellular Modem: Not available on this model, where the FGR-50G-5G is 5G, GPS.

15 of the 65 published rows are identical — Trusted Platform Module at Yes, Gateway-to-Gateway IPsec VPN Tunnels at 200 and Maximum Number of FortiTokens at 500 among them — so the choice does not touch any of those.
