All performance figures are stated by Fortinet as maximums and vary with system configuration.
IPS, application control, NGFW and threat protection figures are measured with logging enabled. NGFW is firewall, IPS and application control; threat protection adds malware protection.
IPsec VPN performance is tested with AES256-SHA256. SSL inspection figures are an average across HTTPS cipher suites.
The datasheet gives the onboard storage as 2 x 1 TB NVMe SSD and the vendor catalogue as 2 x 960 GB. We have not been able to reconcile the two and have reported both rather than pick one - confirm at quote if the exact capacity matters.
Fortinet lists DC-powered 1800F-DC and 1801F-DC variants on the same datasheet, for a rack fed from a 48-60 V plant. Ask us if you need one.
Two 10 GE SFP+ SR transceivers are included with the appliance. Any other optics, QSFP+ modules and direct attach cables are quoted separately.
The hyperscale firewall licence, LIC-FG18F-HYPSC, is a one-time licence rather than a subscription and has no term.

The 1800F With Storage Fitted
Every throughput, session and VPN figure here is identical to the FortiGate 1800F. The 1801F adds two 1 TB NVMe SSDs, so a unit sitting at a carrier edge or a data centre core holds its own log history rather than depending on a reachable FortiAnalyzer - and NVMe rather than SATA, which matters when the log rate matches twelve million concurrent sessions.
Forty-Five Interfaces, Four of Them 40 GE
Sixteen GE RJ45, eight GE SFP, twelve 25 GE SFP28 that step down to 10 GE, and four 40 GE QSFP+ slots, with two dedicated management ports and two 10 GE SFP+ HA slots. Two 10 GE SR transceivers ship with the unit.
NP7 Hyperscale and CP9
The NP7 handles IPv4 and IPv6 forwarding, CAPWAP, VXLAN and GRE tunnelling, IPsec including Suite B, and elephant flows up to 100 Gbps, with volumetric DDoS protection in hardware. The CP9 sits outside the traffic path doing signature matching and crypto offload. A separate hyperscale firewall licence unlocks the carrier-grade NAT and IPv6 migration features on this platform.
