IPS, application control, NGFW and threat protection figures are measured with logging enabled. NGFW is firewall, IPS and application control; threat protection adds malware protection.
IPsec VPN performance is tested with AES256-SHA256. SSL inspection figures are an average across HTTPS cipher suites.
There is no onboard storage on the 3800G. The FortiGate 3801G is the same appliance with 2 x 1.92 TB SSD fitted.
The 200 million concurrent sessions and 1.11 million new sessions a second are the figures without the hyperscale licence, which moves session setup, session logging and NAT into the NP7.
Fortinet has not yet published CAPWAP throughput or the compliance list for this series, so those rows are marked rather than filled with a guess.
The G-series platforms also carry a Sovereign SASE tier - as a hardware bundle and as a subscription - which the F-series models do not.
Two 10 GE SFP+ SR transceivers are included with the appliance. Any other optics, QSFP modules and direct attach cables are quoted separately.

The Largest Appliance Fortinet Builds Outside the Chassis
Four 400 GE QSFP-DD ports, six 200 GE QSFP56 slots and eighteen 50 GE SFP56 slots, driving 795 Gbps of firewall throughput and 250 Gbps of IPS. Two hundred million concurrent sessions and four hundred thousand firewall policies put this at the top of the rackmount range - past it, the answer is a 7000-series chassis.
Carrier Scale Without a Chassis
With LIC-FG38G-HYPSC the session table goes from two hundred million to four hundred and fifty million, and new sessions a second from 1.11 million to seven. That is carrier-grade NAT territory in 3 RU, which is the argument for this box over a chassis for operators who do not need the redundancy a chassis brings.
Hot-Swappable Everything
Power is 2+2 hot-swappable at 80 Plus Platinum, in AC or DC, and the fan tray is hot-swappable too. FortiSentry watches the FortiOS filesystem out of band, with a signed firmware hardware switch and a TPM alongside it.
