IPS, application control, NGFW and threat protection figures are measured with logging enabled. NGFW is firewall, IPS and application control; threat protection adds malware protection.
IPsec VPN performance is tested with AES256-SHA256. SSL inspection figures are an average across HTTPS cipher suites.
This is a chassis, not a fixed appliance. Throughput and port count both depend on how many FPM processor modules and FIM interface modules are fitted, and the chassis ships with a starting complement rather than a full one. We work the module count back from the throughput and the interfaces you need.
Fortinet states the 7081F performance figures against a six-FPM configuration. A chassis fitted with fewer processor modules does proportionally less.
Fortinet’s published table prints two separate rows for the 100 GE QSFP28 / 40 GE QSFP+ slot count, 36 and 48, without saying which configuration each belongs to. Rather than pick one, both are shown here and we confirm the exact port map against the module complement at quote.
This is a DC chassis, for a rack fed from a 48-60 V plant. Fortinet also builds the AC variants of the same chassis.
Power draw is 6,100 W average and 7,300 W maximum, 24,900 BTU/h, at 127 A average and 152 A maximum on a 48 V plant.
Each FIM module carries 2 x 4 TB of local log storage, so a two-module chassis holds 16 TB without a FortiAnalyzer attached.
Four 10 GE SFP+ SR transceivers are included with the chassis. QSFP-DD, QSFP28 and SFP28 optics and direct attach cables are quoted separately.
Fortinet has not yet published the compliance and certification list for this series, so those rows are marked rather than filled with a guess.

A Chassis, Not an Appliance
The 7081F-DC is a twelve-rack-unit eight-slot chassis rather than a fixed box. It ships with one FPM-7620F processor module, one FIM-7921F I/O module, two management modules and six hot-swappable 2500 W DC supplies, and it grows by adding processor modules. The published figures - 405 Gbps of IPS, 1.89 Tbps of firewall - are what a six-FPM configuration does.
Where a Chassis Earns Its Place
Six hundred million concurrent sessions and 5.4 million new sessions a second put this above the whole rackmount range. More to the point, every module is hot-swappable and the chassis keeps running through a module failure or a module upgrade, which a 4800F cannot do. That redundancy, not raw throughput, is usually why an operator picks a chassis.
DC Power and Local Logging
Six 2500 W DC supplies on a -48 V to -60 V plant, drawing roughly 6.1 kW average and 7.3 kW maximum. Each FIM module carries two 4 TB drives, so a populated chassis holds its own log history rather than depending on a reachable FortiAnalyzer.
