Fortinet FortiManager VM

FortiManager as a virtual appliance, licensed by managed device count from a 10-device base upward, on VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, Xen, AWS or Azure.

The same management, without the appliance

FortiManager VM delivers the same centralized management as the hardware appliances on infrastructure you already run. It suits deployments that would rather scale management with the virtual estate than rack another box, and it is the usual choice where the Fortinet estate itself is already virtual.

Licensed by managed device count

Licensing starts at a base that manages 10 devices or VDOMs, and upgrade licences add capacity in steps of 10, 100, 1,000 and 5,000, up to an unlimited tier. The licences stack, so capacity is added to an existing deployment rather than replaced. Storage capacity and the supported GB/day of logs rise with the tier, which is the practical constraint on how much log retention a given licence will carry.

Locally hosted security content

Across every tier the virtual appliance can host antivirus, intrusion prevention, vulnerability management, web filtering and antispam databases locally, so managed devices can pull content from the FortiManager rather than reaching out individually. Chassis management becomes available from the 1,000-device tier upward.
