Which one fits
The FortiGate 60F is not a straight step up from the FortiGate 50G: it publishes less threat-protection throughput (700 Mbps against 1.1 Gbps) and IPS throughput (1.4 Gbps against 2.25 Gbps). On the headline figures it gains nothing. Neither choice moves the concurrent session table (720,000 against 700,000) or the site-to-site tunnel count (both 200), so a site held back by how many flows can be live at once gains nothing from the FG-60F.
Choose the FortiGate 50G if
- IPsec VPN throughput is already enough at 4.5 Gbps: the FG-60F adds +44% you will not use.
- The FG-50G is ahead on threat-protection throughput: 1.1 Gbps against 700 Mbps.
- The FG-50G is ahead on IPS throughput: 2.25 Gbps against 1.4 Gbps.
- Your limit is how many flows can be live at once, which the step up does not move: 720,000 against 700,000.
Choose the FortiGate 60F if
