All performance figures are stated by Fortinet as maximums and vary with system configuration. The 200G and 201G share every throughput, session and VPN figure - the SSD is the difference.
IPS, application control, NGFW and threat protection figures are measured with logging enabled. NGFW is firewall, IPS and application control; threat protection adds malware protection.
IPsec VPN performance is tested with AES256-SHA256. SSL inspection figures are an average across HTTPS cipher suites, and the SSL-VPN figure uses an RSA-2048 certificate.
The dual AC power supplies are fitted by default and are not hot-swappable. They give 1+1 redundancy, not field-replaceable modules.
Transceivers and direct attach cables are not included and are quoted separately.

FortiGate 201G
The FortiGate 200G with a 480 GB SSD fitted - 11 million sessions, and the log history to account for them.
What the 201G Adds
The 201G is the 200G with a 480 GB SSD fitted. At 400,000 new sessions a second the log volume is considerable, and local storage is what lets the appliance hold its own history rather than depending on the path to FortiAnalyzer staying up. Throughput, interfaces and session capacity are identical to the 200G.
Eleven Million Sessions in 1 RU
The FortiGate 200G series is built for session volume rather than raw interface count: 11 million concurrent sessions and 400,000 new sessions a second, roughly three times what the 120G carries, with 9 Gbps of IPS and 27.8 Gbps of application control. It is the model for a campus edge or a busy data centre boundary where connection churn, not bandwidth, is the constraint.
NP7Lite and CP10 Acceleration
Two ASICs do the heavy lifting: NP7Lite handles network processing and CP10 handles content inspection, which is what gets SSL inspection to 7 Gbps and 900,000 concurrent inspected sessions. Eight 10 GE SFP+ FortiLink slots and eight 5 GE RJ45 ports give the uplink and multi-gigabit access capacity to match, and the appliance manages up to 64 FortiSwitches and 256 FortiAPs.
