The 40F series runs on FortiOS, a converged networking and security platform with secure AI controls and quantum-safe protection. Built on the Fortinet Security Fabric

As a cornerstone of the Fortinet Security Fabric, the FortiGate NGFW works with FortiGuard AI-Powered Security Services to deliver coordinated, automated threat protection in real time. The 40F is built on the patented SD-WAN ASIC, which delivers performance beyond a general-purpose CPU at lower cost and reduced power consumption. The application-specific design and embedded multi-core processor accelerate the convergence of networking and security to optimise secure connections at branch locations.

Where It Sits Against the 30G

The 40F raises IPS throughput to 1 Gbps and firewall throughput to 5 Gbps, adds a fifth GE port, a USB port, SSL-VPN for up to 200 tunnel-mode users, 10 virtual domains and a published 3.5 Gbps CAPWAP figure for managed FortiAPs. It gives up the Trusted Platform Module that the 30G carries, and runs a little warmer at 52.55 BTU/hr. Both are fanless desktop units that take an external DC adapter.
