All performance figures are stated by Fortinet as maximums and vary with system configuration. Every model in the 70G series shares the same throughput, session and VPN figures - the variants differ in their interfaces, not their performance.
IPS, application control, NGFW and threat protection figures are measured with logging enabled. NGFW is firewall, IPS and application control; threat protection adds malware protection.
IPsec VPN performance is tested with AES256-SHA256. SSL inspection figures are an average across HTTPS cipher suites.
SSL-VPN is listed as not applicable on this platform. If SSL-VPN matters to your deployment, tell us and we will propose a model that supports it.
The datasheet also covers the 71G and 71G-POE, which add a 64 GB SSD. Ask us if local log storage is a requirement.

Power consumption and heat dissipation are far above the rest of the series because the figure includes the PoE budget delivered to attached devices.
The datasheet gives a noise level for the FortiWiFi 70G-PoE (17.75 dBA) but leaves the FortiGate 70G-PoE row blank, while marking the non-PoE models fanless. We list it as rated rather than fanless and confirm on request.
FortiGate 70G-PoE
The 70G with four PoE ports and a 60 W budget - the fastest desktop FortiGate, powering the devices it protects.
Power and Protection on the Same Cable
The PoE variant gives the 70G four 802.3at ports with a 60 W total budget, up to 30 W on any one port, so the access points, cameras or phones at a branch run from the firewall itself. It is the only model in the series that is not fanless, and it draws considerably more at the wall - because that draw is the power it is handing on.
Converged Next-Generation Firewall and SD-WAN
The FortiGate 70G series integrates firewalling, SD-WAN, network controller and security in one desktop appliance, running on FortiOS so the networking and the security are configured from one console. At 2.5 Gbps of IPS and 1.4 million concurrent sessions it is the largest of the desktop platforms, sized for a branch that has outgrown the 60F without moving to a rackmount.
Built on the Fortinet Security Fabric
As a cornerstone of the Fortinet Security Fabric, the FortiGate NGFW works with FortiGuard AI-Powered Security Services to deliver coordinated, automated threat protection in real time. The 70G carries a Trusted Platform Module and a signed firmware hardware switch, manages up to 24 FortiSwitches and 96 FortiAPs, and is administered centrally from FortiManager.
