The Budget Halves on a Single Supply
With both supplies fitted this switch delivers 1440 W of PoE. On one it delivers 780 W at 200-240 V, or 600 W at 100-120 V. That is worth knowing twice over: the second supply is half the power budget rather than just redundancy, and the mains voltage changes the answer too. Check the circuit before sizing the device load.
25 Gigabit Uplinks and Hot-Swap Supplies
The 600 Series is the first FortiSwitch access platform with 25 Gigabit SFP28 uplinks and hot-swappable power supplies - a failed supply is replaced without taking the switch down. With 300k IPv4 routes and a 32 GB SSD it is closer to a distribution switch than an access one, and the MACsec support carries through from the 300 Series.
Managed as an Extension of the Firewall
A FortiSwitch can run standalone, but the reason to buy one alongside a FortiGate is FortiLink: the switch becomes a logical extension of the firewall, so ports, VLANs and network access control are configured in the same console as the security policy. That removes the usual split between the team that owns the switch and the team that owns the firewall, and it is why NAC on these switches costs nothing extra.
