FortiSwitch M426E-FPOE
A mixed-speed access switch: sixteen Gigabit, eight 2.5 Gigabit at 60 W, and two 5 Gigabit.
Three Access Speeds in One Switch
The M in M426E is for MultiGig, and the port mix is the point: sixteen Gigabit ports for phones and desks, eight 2.5 Gigabit ports with 60 W four-pair power for the access points that need both, and two 5 Gigabit ports for whatever is fastest. Buying one switch that matches the real mix of devices is usually cheaper than buying a uniform multi-gigabit switch and leaving most of it unused.
Managed as an Extension of the Firewall
A FortiSwitch can run standalone, but the reason to buy one alongside a FortiGate is FortiLink: the switch becomes a logical extension of the firewall, so ports, VLANs and network access control are configured in the same console as the security policy. That removes the usual split between the team that owns the switch and the team that owns the firewall, and it is why NAC on these switches costs nothing extra.
