All performance figures are stated by Fortinet as maximums and vary with system configuration. Every model in the 50G series shares the same throughput, session and VPN figures - the variants differ in their interfaces, not their performance.
IPS, application control, NGFW and threat protection figures are measured with logging enabled. NGFW is firewall, IPS and application control; threat protection adds malware protection.
IPsec VPN performance is tested with AES256-SHA256. SSL inspection figures are an average across HTTPS cipher suites.
The datasheet pairs each 50G model with a 51G equivalent that adds a 64 GB SSD. The figures here are the 50G column.

Converged Next-Generation Firewall and SD-WAN
The FortiGate 50G series integrates firewalling, SD-WAN, network controller and security in one appliance, built for small environments that still need enterprise-grade inspection. It runs on FortiOS, the converged networking and security operating system, so one platform covers both sides of the deployment and integrates with the rest of the Fortinet Security Fabric.
Hardware Built to Be Trusted
Every 50G carries a Trusted Platform Module that generates, stores and authenticates cryptographic keys, and a signed firmware hardware switch - a physical switch, set by default to the highest security level, which ensures only validated FortiOS firmware can be loaded. FortiLink lets a FortiSwitch be managed as a logical extension of the firewall, and the FortiLink port can be reconfigured as a regular port when it is not needed.
Fibre In, Wi-Fi Out
This is the SFP model with the Wi-Fi 6 radio of the FortiWiFi series added. It suits a site where the carrier hands off on fibre and the users are wireless - a serviced office, a small clinic, a floor of a building - without stacking a media converter and an access point beside the firewall.
