Specifications are from Fortinet’s July 2026 FortiAP series datasheet.
This is the only model here with Class 1 Division 2 and ATEX Zone 2 compliance alongside LoRaWAN, which is what makes it viable for a hazardous-area IoT deployment rather than just an outdoor one.
Fortinet’s ordering table lists this model as FAP-222KL without a region suffix, while our catalogue source lists FAP-222KL-A. We confirm the exact part number at quote.
FortiAPs ship under a region code - the part number above is the Region A variant sold in Canada.
FortiCare Essential is sold as a renewal only on FortiAP and cannot be bought with new hardware.
Part numbers are Fortinet catalogue SKUs listed for reference. Availability, term and lead time are confirmed at quote.
FortiAP 222KL
A Wi-Fi 7 access point and a LoRaWAN gateway in one outdoor unit, with LTE backhaul.
Two Wireless Networks, One Enclosure
LoRaWAN carries small amounts of data a long way on very little power, which is what IoT sensors need and what Wi-Fi is bad at. The 222KL puts a LoRaWAN gateway and a Wi-Fi 7 access point in the same outdoor unit, with LTE available for backhaul. For a site running environmental sensors, metering or asset tracking alongside ordinary wireless - a campus, a utility, a farm, a municipal deployment - it is one install and one mount instead of two.
Managed From the Firewall, Not a Controller
A FortiAP has no separate controller to buy, licence or patch. It is managed from a FortiGate, from FortiEdge Cloud or through FortiSASE, which means the wireless policy and the security policy are configured in the same place and the access point is part of the Security Fabric rather than a device bolted on beside it. For a site that already runs a FortiGate, adding wireless is adding an access point and nothing else.
