Which one fits

Stepping up from the FortiGate 1800F to the FortiGate 2600F moves threat-protection throughput from 9.1 Gbps to 25 Gbps (2.7×), IPS throughput from 13 Gbps to 31 Gbps (2.4×) and NGFW throughput from 11 Gbps to 27 Gbps (2.5×). Neither choice moves IPsec VPN throughput (both 55 Gbps) or raw firewall throughput (198 / 197 / 140 Gbps against 198 / 196 / 140 Gbps), so a site held back by site-to-site tunnel capacity gains nothing from the FG-2600F.

Choose the FortiGate 1800F if

  • Threat-protection throughput is already enough at 9.1 Gbps: the FG-2600F adds 2.7× you will not use.
  • Your limit is site-to-site tunnel capacity, which the step up does not move: 55 Gbps against 55 Gbps.

Choose the FortiGate 2600F if

  • Threat-protection throughput has to go past 9.1 Gbps: the FG-2600F publishes 25 Gbps.
  • IPS throughput has to go past 13 Gbps: the FG-2600F publishes 31 Gbps.
  • NGFW throughput has to go past 11 Gbps: the FG-2600F publishes 27 Gbps.
  • The FG-2600F has 16 × 25 GE SFP28 / 10 GE SFP+ / GE SFP Slots against 12.

16 of the 65 published rows are identical — Maximum Number of FortiAPs at 4,096 / 2,048, Firewall Policies at 100,000, Gateway-to-Gateway IPsec VPN Tunnels at 20,000 and Client-to-Gateway IPsec VPN Tunnels at 100,000 among them — so the choice does not touch any of those.
