Specifications are from Fortinet’s September 2026 FortiAP High Density series datasheet.
The High Density range is the exception to the rest of FortiAP: it runs under the FortiAP-HD WLAN controller, licensed per site as LIC-WMS-HD-SW. That licence is listed below and is needed in addition to the access points.
This is the only FortiAP here with ZeroWait DFS, so a radar detection does not take the channel out of service.
The 6 GHz band is not available in every regulatory domain and its use is subject to regional regulatory approval.
FortiCare Essential is sold as a renewal only on FortiAP and cannot be bought with new hardware.
Part numbers are Fortinet catalogue SKUs listed for reference. Availability, term and lead time are confirmed at quote.
FortiAP HD-441K
Indoor ultra high density: four Wi-Fi 7 radios at 4x4, 21.3 Gbps aggregate and two 10 Gigabit uplinks.
Ultra High Density, Indoors
The HD-441K is the indoor member of the High Density range, built for stadium concourses, convention halls, auditoriums and transport hubs where the client count per square metre breaks an ordinary access point. Four 4x4 Wi-Fi 7 service radios give it 21.3 Gbps of aggregate PHY rate, a fifth radio scans continuously without taking capacity away, and two 10 Gigabit uplinks carry the result.
ZeroWait DFS and Assisted Roaming
Unlike the rest of the FortiAP range this model supports ZeroWait DFS, which means a radar detection does not take the channel out of service while the AP waits out the mandatory quiet period. Combined with 802.11k/r/v assisted roaming and multi-radio client load balancing, that is what keeps a dense crowd of moving clients connected rather than merely associated.
Managed From the Firewall, Not a Controller
A FortiAP has no separate controller to buy, licence or patch. It is managed from a FortiGate, from FortiEdge Cloud or through FortiSASE, which means the wireless policy and the security policy are configured in the same place and the access point is part of the Security Fabric rather than a device bolted on beside it. For a site that already runs a FortiGate, adding wireless is adding an access point and nothing else.
