Specifications are from Fortinet’s September 2026 FortiAP High Density series datasheet.
The High Density range is the exception to the rest of FortiAP: it runs under the FortiAP-HD WLAN controller, licensed per site as LIC-WMS-HD-SW. That licence is listed below and is needed in addition to the access points.
The 6 GHz band is not available in every regulatory domain and its use is subject to regional regulatory approval.
Fortinet’s ordering table lists this model without a region suffix, while our catalogue source lists it with -A. We confirm the exact part number at quote.
FortiCare Essential is sold as a renewal only on FortiAP and cannot be bought with new hardware.
Part numbers are Fortinet catalogue SKUs listed for reference. Availability, term and lead time are confirmed at quote.
FortiAP HD-444KN
Narrow reconfigurable beam, 15 to 45 degrees elevation, reaching up to 150 ft down a seating bowl.
The Narrow One of the Reconfigurable Pair
The 444KN takes the same four radios as the 444KW and puts them behind a far tighter antenna: a selectable 15, 30 or 45 degree elevation beam, 30 degrees wide, with 13.1 dBi of gain at 6 GHz. That concentration is what gets it to 150 ft, which is the difference between covering the block in front of you and covering the one across the bowl. The trade is a 70 degree scan range rather than 360.
Managed From the Firewall, Not a Controller
A FortiAP has no separate controller to buy, licence or patch. It is managed from a FortiGate, from FortiEdge Cloud or through FortiSASE, which means the wireless policy and the security policy are configured in the same place and the access point is part of the Security Fabric rather than a device bolted on beside it. For a site that already runs a FortiGate, adding wireless is adding an access point and nothing else.
