All performance figures are stated by Fortinet as maximums and vary with system configuration. Throughput, sessions and VPN figures are identical across the whole 30G series.
IPS, application control, NGFW and threat protection figures are measured with logging enabled. NGFW is firewall, IPS and application control; threat protection adds malware protection.
IPsec VPN performance is tested with AES256-SHA256. SSL inspection figures are an average across HTTPS cipher suites.
CAPWAP throughput is listed as TBA in the August 2025 datasheet and has not been published.

Everything the Series Offers, in One Unit
The FortiWiFi 31G is the top of the 30G family: the firewall, the SD-WAN edge, the dual-band Wi-Fi 6 access point and 30 GB of local storage in a single fanless box. For a branch that needs wireless coverage and has a log retention requirement to meet on site, it is the only model in the series that does both without a second appliance.
What the 31G Adds
The 31G is the 30G with a 30 GB SSD fitted. That storage is what lets the appliance keep logs locally rather than shipping every event off-box, which matters when the WAN is the thing you are troubleshooting, when a retention requirement has to be met on site, or when FortiAnalyzer is not part of the deployment. Throughput, session capacity, VPN figures and the port layout are identical to the 30G; the unit draws a little more and runs slightly warmer.
Built on the Fortinet Security Fabric
As a cornerstone of the Fortinet Security Fabric, the FortiGate NGFW works with FortiGuard AI-Powered Security Services to deliver coordinated, automated threat protection in real time. The 31G is built on the patented SD-WAN ASIC, carries a Trusted Platform Module for key storage, and is managed centrally alongside the rest of the estate from FortiManager.
